Survivor 2010: Episode 6 Tonight on CBS

A new week with a new time so don’t forget to set your DVR’s if you are unable to watch episode 6 of Survivor 2010 Heroes vs. Villains.

We’ve got a lot to get in to the 1 hour show including the double boot that will send Tyson and James packing. Missyae thinks the James boot is for sympathy and the feeling is mutual between him and the tribe. This would explain why Rupert and Amanda vote him out. Rob should win individual immunity and with Russell having the idol and passing it off to Parvati we will say goodbye to Tyson.

Lots of idols coming into play with people passing them around to each other so things should get pretty confusing in the upcoming episodes. JT will find one and then give it to Russell before the merge. Russell will use it against him after the merge to get him out. Should be some great stuff coming up. I know we aren’t fans of the idols but you got to admit, it’s going to get real interesting.

Idols are great! I love the occasional blindside, and when Russell gets going it’s great!

The villains have the wrong attitude towards them, if they want to ‘play’ the game, use the idols, don’t just throw it in the ocean!

I, for one, love the idols. I love a strategic game and the idols are great for inducing a stratigic game.

Idols are a great twist, but I worry about them being used too often. The game is about social networking, not sneaky tricks and gimmicks. Why not plant food & tools around for people to find/hide/keep instead? Or hidden video cameras for contestants to see others conspiring against them? THAT would be a good twist.

Everyone has a fair shot to look for, find, hide, and use the idols, it’s not an unfair gimmick. It’s a tool that they can use in alliances and what not. Whats the difference between an alliance and an immunity idol? It’s not about social networking or popularity. Out Wit, Out Last, Out Play.

DIRECTLY at #3 “The game is about social networking, —not sneaky tricks and gimmicks.—”

Think about that statement and all the sneaky tricks in Survivor history, Johnny Fairplay comes flashing to mind.

Return, Revenge, Redemption, All the past playing styles are thrown out at this point because all these players fall under one more than the other, be it revenge or redemption.

And remember when Rupert stole (hid) the opposing tribes shoes? Or Russell hiding the machete in the sand… No tricks… Social Networking… Lol

I hope future players learn from Russell Hans because he had most of the idols this year and last year but stil didn’t win because he lacked a social game. You can have every idol there is but if nobody likes you, then you will just get to the end to see floaters like Natalie and this year Parvati and Sandra win. This year Parvati didn’t win, but she even got more votes than Russell… P.S. Sandra used this startegy to win twice and Russell used his idol strategy to lose twice so I think the social game is way more important than the blind side with an idol game. Players like Richard Hatch was able to win without an Idol because he is a way better Survivor game player than Russell!

I hope people learn from Russell and play the game from the start to end at 100% and let the card fall where they may. Russell never would have made it to the end in his final season if he didn’t play hard and make some hard decisions.

#7 Duane – My theory (and my humble opinion) regarding Richard Hatch goes like this. He won not because he always had his pants-frog exposed, but he found food and FED the castaways. Feeding the castaways use to be an almost certain road to the championship, but that part of the game withered away (not unlike Richard’s pants-frog, I would imagine)!

Skokie, Russell isn’t outwitting anyone. He has been lucky to find idols to save himself. To outwit, outlast and outplay you have to be good at developing relationships and win challenges. He won one challenge last year. He has won challenges on the Villians tribe thanks to Boston Rob carrying that team. Russell is good at finding idols, but he foolishly tells everyone he has them which is what screwed him last year from winniung and will burn him again this season because he is perceived as arogant. At least when the idols first came into play the losing tribe would have a member sent to an isolated island where they had to look for the clue while they suffered. They Survivor adopted its policy and gave Sugar a choice between luxury or looking for the idol. It has now got obsurldy over used and too many idols are ruining the outwit, outladt and outplay concept. It is now a find an idol concept so you can advance.

Skokie, do you honestly believe without the idols Russell would have made it to the end this year or last season?

Jeanne, I agree about how people valued Richard because he provided for the tribe. That was why Ozzie and Rupert where valued by there tribes when they played. That is a skill just like people who take the time to get to know tribemates and befriending them to make it to the end. Winning is also a skill because you win various challenges. Russell on the other handhas a skill for finding idols, but this skill hasn’t helped him win because he looks arogant by using idols to make deals with everyone because of the idols. He would have won if he used his skills at winning idols and was able to say he won challenges, provided for the tribe to overcome the fact that he isn’t a good social player. Am I right? He would have won easily with one of these oither traits. I hope he uses one of these traits in the next season he plays on and maybe he will win and be the Ultimate Survivor.

You do have to play a somewhat social game in order to receive the votes in the end. With that being said, you also have to play the game strategically and mentally. I am opposed to floaters winning as Natalie did last season and I can’t stand to see someone like Russ play a great game just to lose in the end. I’m not opposed to an idol here and there but apparently there is going to be a lot of them this season and I don’t think that’s necessary.

I don’t get why Rob expects no one to look for the idol. He is not playing that good of a game in my opinion. Just because there wasn’t idols when he played doesn’t mean the game hasn’t changed. Get with it.

Did you even watch the same show last year. Russell single handedly orchestrated almost every single eviction. You have valid point about his social game but come on he plays the strategic game as good if not better then anyone before.

Plus, he had to be pretty good socially to keep his follower doing every single thing the asked of him until the very end (except vote for him)

As for your question

Finding the idols is part of the game. Do you think he would have made it to the end if he say back like Sandra and played the “as long as its not me” card. No…he and his tribe would have been taken out one by one in what surely would have been one of the most boring survivors ever. I want to see a Russell that plays, scrabbles, finds idols, and backstabs his way all the way to the top, even if it means he get no votes.
