Survivor 2017: Jeff Probst Defends “Game Changers” Cast Picks

If you’ve been scratching your head over some of the Survivor 2017 cast picks as part of the “Game Changers” season then you’re not alone, but Survivor host Jeff Probst is here to explain.

Sure, we can see Tony, Sandra, and Ozzy being knighted as “Game Changers” by Probst but some of the other twenty castaways still have a little more time down the Survivor road to get there. So how did the rest of them earn a spot in this high profile season?

Jeff has clearly been getting a lot of questions over it and sounds a bit annoyed in his interview with EW. Probst explains that the challenge some of us may have in understanding the season’s theme and those involved is because we lack perspective:

“I thought the name was a really good brand. It brings up questions. Some people are going to say, ‘All of these people didn’t make game changing moves.’ No, they didn’t. But they were willing to make a move that might change the game. And if you’ve ever played Survivor, you know the difference.”

Ehh, if the theme of a show viewed by millions can only be comprehended by hundreds who have actually been a castaway then it might be an issue. I haven’t played Survivor, so like “It’s a Jeep Thing,” I guess I won’t understand. Or maybe we’ll be okay. I think we get it and yes, some of these castaways really are “game changers” while others are filler and that’s okay. It’d be just fine for Jeff to say that too and not get so hung up on taglines for the season like I am when I question their choices.

The Survivor 2017 cast looks like it should make for a fun season and I’m looking forward to seeing them in action. But when Jeff takes aim at fans and says, “if you just take off the blinders that are holding you back in life, and they are, you could be so much more,” well yikes. Maybe it’s time for Jeff to relax on the beach without any cameras and castaways around for a little while.
