If you missed this week’s Survivor 2018 among the holiday hustle and bustle, then you missed another great episode. If you didn’t know yet, Dan Rengering was the latest castaway voted off Survivor in another shocking Tribal Council.
Dan fell victim to the first-ever idol nullifier, meaning despite him playing an idol for himself, all of the votes against him counted. And there were enough to send him off to jury. In his exit interview, Dan explains his thinking and what he wanted to get out of his Survivor experience.
“My idol didn’t work for the first time in Idol history,” Dan says shortly after Tribal Council. “It’s not the end of the world. It could be so much worse.”
Dan’s spirits were actually pretty upbeat despite what just happened. He learns that he’s under 200 pounds for the first time since middle school and is very happy he gets to hang out with his fellow “brochacho” at Ponderosa.
But unlike most people who play Survivor and head off to Ponderosa to reflect, Dan doesn’t seem to have much room for personal improvement.
“I’m not going to change who I am to play a game,” he says. “That’s not who I am that’s not who I want to be.”
He does want to focus on how to teach his children about winning and losing though and how you present yourself. He says he wants them to know you don’t have to lie, cheat and steal to get ahead in life. “Hard work and hustle will get you there,” he says.
So since we don’t get a lot of reflection and growth from Dan, we get a really sill “brochacho” video with him and John at the end. So if that’s your kind of thing, be sure to watch the entire video below.
