Survivor 2019 Island of the Idols premiered Wednesday night, and I must say, it got off to a great start. Let’s take a closer look at what we thought of the premiere with our first impressions.
The Cast. I really like this cast. It seems like an authentic group of castaways, very reminiscent of earlier Survivor casts. We don’t have a bunch of models, but actually a group of diverse people who seem to really come to play. These people were playing the game hard even before the met Jeff Probst for the first time. The standout was clearly Elaine, the hilarious country gal from Kentucky. She had everyone in the game and on social media rolling. I was very happy she was not the first person voted out.
The Twist. I am not a fan of twists and themes in general, but this one isn’t bad. It’s fun to see Sandra and Rob in these roles, so I’m good with that. I think it’s silly to ask a newbie to make fire against Boston Rob, but it is still a pretty fun angle. And how silly is it that Rob and Sandra got to watch Tribal from their secret hut. So extra and hilarious. But I also like that maybe that might be the only way to find idols? I could be wrong here, but I love the idea of actually having to complete some kind of challenge to get an idol. And that would defiantly match the theme of the season, but we’ll see if that’s really how it works. People just finding idols under stumps or whatever has always been too easy.
Tribal Council. That was a great first Tribal Council. What goes down at tribals can often make or break a season. I mean, come on, we usually base what makes a good episode during those last 10 minutes or so. And the first one was great. We thought the early favorite (Elaine) could end up going home. And she had a truly emotional moment when talking about. And then bam, an alpha male who was leading the charge already gets blindsided. THAT is good TV.
So overall, I was pleased with the Survivor 39 premiere. I’m looking forward to what happens next. And I can’t want to watch along with you and keep you updated all season long. So be sure to head back here every week day for new Survivor Island of the Idols content. We’ll have recaps, results, rankings and any kind of of those elusive Survivor spoilers we can dig up.
