Survivor 41: Genie Chen Reacts To Her Elimination

This week on Survivor 41, Shan went with the strategist over the loyalist when she voted out Genie at Tribal Council.

Earlier in this week’s episode, Shan debated on whether or not she should stick with Ricard, who is a great strategic player, or Genie who she knows would be loyal. And we see what won out. That wasn’t a shock to us, but it was to Genie, as she said in her exit interview with Entertainment Weekly.

“I was surprised at the moment it happened, because I really thought I had Shan,” Genie told EW. “I really thought she, in the long run, would not go with Ricard because there was always something about Ricard that nobody on the tribe truly trusted. And the only reason why we were even wanting to work with him was because of Shan. So she was like the common denominator for pretty much every single person that got booted. So I was surprised at the time, but now, of course, looking back, I’m just like, “Of course they were going to go together again! How could I think I’m so special that it wouldn’t happen to me?”

It seems Genie was just a bit too trusting. From running to tell Shan and Ricard she found the idol, to her truly thinking she had Shan in her corner. And Genie agrees.

“Oh, that’s an understatement,” Genie said when asked if she was too trusting. “Yes. I was way too trusting. Absolutely.”

And if you thought the move Shan and Ricard made against Genie with the idol was savage, she explains it was even more hardcore, as she was out catching them all dinner.

“You know what I was doing at the time when they did this? I was out there getting fish for all of us,” Genie explained. “I brought like three tiny little fish, and we each had one. We were like, “Okay, we’re going to have some protein before we go in.” I watched that and I’m just like, ‘Wow, I had no chance at all with them.’ ”
