Katrina Radke drew the unwelcome honor of being the first castaway voted off Survivor 2017 this week when her Heroes tribe failed to deliver in the Tracks Of My Tears immunity challenge. Despite a fellow underdog in her tribe holding the Super Idol, Chrissy, Katrina was still voted off and out of the game.
In her “The Day After” interview we got to hear from Katrina as she discussed her brief, but enjoyable experience on Survivor Season 35.
Katrina explains how she’s been a series-long fan of Survivor and how much she enjoyed watching the challenges so she looked forward to trying out more of them for herself.
As for being the first one, Katrina didn’t see that as a possibility when she entered the game, but by the time she was going to Tribal it appeared to be a definite risk. She wondered if her big personality might have scared off some of her tribe mates and contributed to her elimination.
Since Katrina came in as a perceived older castaway she did end up revealing to her tribe that she was an Olympic swimmer, but apparently that news didn’t help her chances. Katrina thinks that maybe being caught between being seen as the 40’s mom role and an accomplished athlete might have made things hard on her tribe in figuring her out.
Katrina expects the game would have gotten a lot harder on the physical side after a few weeks, but after her Olympic training she wasn’t worried about reaching her physical limits. The real challenge in Survivor was going to be the social politics.
High point in the game for Radke was the location. “I loved where we were. It’s beautiful!” She hopes to get back there someday to share with her family, but describes the position of their camp as being out on a peninsula which gave them both the sunrise and sunset for the best views.
She might have been voted off Survivor 2017 first, but Katrina Radke says she feels good with what she did and played the game as best she could with what she knew at the time. It was a short three days but offered her many experiences and she’ll also cherish it.
Note: CBS since pulled the video from YouTube and hasn’t replaced it yet. They’re now showing Day After interviews as an All Access Exclusive. That’s disappointing, but at least you know where to find it.
