Jeff Probst at Survivor Tribal Council

Survivor 2017 debuted last night featuring the season premiere and the reveal of who was voted off when the three new tribes hit the beaches of Fiji and compete for immunity from the first Tribal Council of the season.

Unlike other recent seasons there was just one hour of Survivor for the premiere which meant less filler and more of getting down to action. First up was our quick get-to-know-ya segment as Jeff interviews the new castaways before telling them to kindly get off his boat. They were soon overboard while grabbing all the supplies they can manage before heading to shore and building camp.

Jeff revealed the luxury reward came early and was part of the launch. Back on the beach there are three baskets with fire 15′ up in the air. The first tribe to reach their fire gets a huge fire making kit back at camp. Second place gets a flint. Last place gets nothing.

Healers reach the beach first but the Heroes aren’t far behind… Healers get fire first while Heroes get it second. Meanwhile the Hustlers are completely lost at sea. The Healers are told to head to camp and they’ll know they’re there when they see the nicely pre-lit campfire.

While everyone was grabbing things on the boat Ryan find himself a “Immunity Super Idol” that can be used *after* the votes are revealed but there’s a catch, it has to be used at the first Tribal Council. If his tribe wins safety this week then he has to pick someone on the losing tribe and hand it off to them.

Survivor 2017 Week 1: Immunity Challenge

Castaways will of course be split by their three tribes and face “Tracks Of My Tears” where they’ll cross an obstacle course complete with a net climb, roller coaster, and a choice of three puzzles. First to finish will walk away with safety while last place will grab a torch.

Heroes have a slight lead with the Hustlers right behind them on the puzzle phase while Healers are struggling to keep up. Wait a moment, the Healers are taking the lead with their first ball in a pocket. Soon all three tribes have one of the three pockets filled but Healers keep their lead going.

Healers win immunity! It’s either Hustlers or Heroes heading to Tribal Council… Hustlers win immunity! Heroes are heading to TC tonight.

Heading in Tribal we discover that Chrissy received the Super Idol from Ryan. Looks like the beta went with another beta to pass along the power he couldn’t use. Not a bad idea if he’s hoping to get out some bigger strength on the opposing tribe.

  16. She created errythang! I loved when she had the “time” with Cochran and the knowing smile on Cochran’s face realizing she is going to screw her own game up because of her ego! LOL

  22. I was so shocked and stunned, really stunned. I felt so bad for Zach, but boy, he handled himself in such a great way. I was incredibly impressed.

    I didn’t like seeing him being outed on national tv last season but he seemed to take it in stride. Varner really felt terrible and worse than he did.

  146. Tribal council – Tie votes are back in. What does that mean?? making fire between the two??

    Tie votes used to be, take another vote after trying to talk someone to switch votes. If they don’t switch and are still tied, those two that were voted for, are then ‘safe’ and the leftover ones had to pull a rock from a bag. 1 black (tribe has spoken), and other white, safe.

    Jeff Probst: “The biggest change we’re doing this season is if there’s a tie at Tribal Council, there will not be a revote. There will not be a chance for people to change their votes. You go directly to the tiebreaker, which is openly discussing among yourselves who you want to get rid of. If you can come to a unanimous decision, then that person goes home. If you can’t get a unanimous decision, everybody draws rocks.”

  221. Thank You TY TY I’d watched some ‘old’ clips from shows showing use of idol and not use of idol. There was a tie. They talked. could not agree. The ones who were being voted out were then safe and the ones left pulled rocks.
    So I was close to what it is in what I wrote above, only with trying to persuade at a different time.
    Okay,I can deal with that. Tho, would/do miss the making fire bit. :-)

  264. Yeah, there were a couple places that talked about tonight’s Survivor being only an hour whereas usually it was hour and a half combined with Big Brother hour and a half finale.

I think she didn’t want to rock the boat – maybe she thinks she get them to vote out the football player next vote and if she saved her friend, she only puts her self in their sites for next vote ? I thought she was stupid on this vote til I thought about it – but really it’s kind of smart.

  334. It was a great start, a little bit of everything. There was paranoia, budding love, sneaky underdog (the one everyone is going to underestimate), the eager beaver, the entitled (Joe), etc… and a surprise eviction.

    Katrina and Chrissy are both the oldest castaways. Both aged 46. I would be considered oldest of us ‘three’ as I am over 60. :-(
    Kevin, on BB19, is 56. Chrissy & Katrina, younger than Kevin.
    On Survivor, the NEXT closest age to the ‘old’ ladies – Whoops, there is Mike, the urologist at 43. Next age s- 35, 34, 34, 31 (Alan). THEN 29, 28, 27, 27, 26, 25, 24, 24, 24, 23, & 23.
    The Red Hustlers has the over-all youngest average age. 1 – 30’s, 5 – 20’s.
    The Blue Heroes has over-all oldest average age = 2 – 40’s, 2 – 30’s, 2 – 20’s.

  360. Which ended up being pointless.. I expected her to save Katrina! It looked like the two of them were kinda there for each other the most. What’s up with the guy that kept grilling the Urologist?! I would hate to be put in that situation!! And Alan’s strategy? I believe it was more paranoia than strategy.. either way, I see it back firing on him. I’m not even going to try and pick out favorites this soon. Learned my lesson with BB! lol!!!!!     So the decision to sit on the idol and let Katrina go… good move or bad?

  374. Bad move for TV, good move for her game. No point in making her tribe mad at her this soon. on the other hand, the next time they lose they will vote her off as the “older woman”.
    And I really didn’t like the blatant age discrimination. Even from Jeff. These ladies didn’t look anything like the regular old couch potatoes that are cast.

  378. That was my thought. Seems she’s doing her part to maintain a low profile and peace in the tribe, yet at the same time, it seems clear that she’s next on the chopping block and losing a potential ally. Kind of a damned if you do, damned if you don’t type of thing.

  381. I was so shocked, like I said in my comment. I have a son that I usually watch Survivor with but thankfully he was at Scout’s that night and I could get prepared to explain what was happening. It was a teaching moment for me and an eye opening one as well. Varner exposed the ugly underbelly of what humans will do for money, anything.

    I LOVE THE VIETNAM series!!! I’m hooked, can’t get enough of it, masterful. I’ll probably watch it a good 3 or 4 times before Christmas rolls around. Ken Burns in a genius storyteller. If you are a fan of history and have any interest in the Vietnam War, this is for you! :)

  383. O.M.G…..gotta tell you guys this!!! WE MET KEN DOLL this summer!!!! No kidding, no lie. He was working at a hot spring in Colorado as a gardener & my sister got a picture with him after asking him in a very quiet voice if he was Ken from Survivor.

  387. Of course I’ll give deets…I wouldn’t leave you ladies hanging. ;o) Haha He looks EXACTLY like he did on tv!! He’s not excessively tall, though. Maybe 5’10” or 5′ 11″.
    Here’s the story: I noticed this HAWT guy working in the tropical gardens around the hot spring-fed pool when we were in there. I pointed him out to my cousin, Lexie, because I couldn’t not say something! All I could think was that he looked SO familiar, but I couldn’t place him. Then I thought, “Maybe ‘Survivor’?,” but couldn’t remember his name. It was *such* a small town & *such* a random place (especially since he was from Hawai’i) that I figured it couldn’t be him. Later on, when my sister & brother-in-law came outside, she asked why that guy looked familiar – she said my brother-in-law’s facial recognition software was going crazy, but they couldn’t place him, either. When I said, “Survivor?,” she said, “Yes! Ken Doll!” She then marched her little self back inside to talk to him & get a picture because she’s bold like that (also married & my bil went with her). My single self was looking hellish at that point, so nuh-uh was I going to do that. Hahaha Anyway, my sister said he was very nice! When she told him he should come East to go to Longwood Gardens (a GORGEOUS public garden near Philadelphia that used to be one of Pierre DuPont’s summer estates), he said he has family on the East Coast & he wanted to bring his daughter to see them. He was shirtless at that point and he took a picture with her! :D

    I have all ten episodes recorded, but I’ve been real busy and haven’t finished the first episode yet. Very well told thus far! I love the idea of incorporating ALL sides! I don’t ever want to just know one side of a story, especially when it is much deeper than that!!

  403. That’s how I feel about it. She sent her only ally home. Well, it was implied that they were allies at least… What throws me off is that she voted to evict Katrina as well..?

  404. Yeah I like the Cowboy as well so far. I wish it was live and we could watch the live feeds, just like in Big Brother, that way we can see more of their personalities and then conclude our favorites. The weekly episode is edited so much that we don’t see their true characters.. they can edit and cut it to make one person look like a villain, while the other is made to be the “hero”.. This past season on Big Brother, they all got EXTREMELY good edits! I’m glad that I was able to see the people as they really were. So that’s my only issue with Survivor.. so it’s really difficult to pick a favorite. Especially this soon! ?

    We all have to re-watch the show to get the names and tribes straight, but it’s worth it just to have the camaraderie of watching together. I know that’s not always possible, given time zone differences—but I’m so glad you came back the next day! It adds so much…

  418. I believe there are good arguments for both sides. She could have used it, saved her and then try to move forward and build an alliance but……I’m not sure anyone would want to go over to that side other than maybe Alan? He’s such a wild card. In the end I think she made the right decision to not use the idol.

  421. I’m disappointed they didn’t do an extended episode for the season opener. It went by too fast and we didn’t get enough time to learn about the players.

  429. That was my first impression of him. Like I said, time will show all their true colors. I only remember him talking in the beginning though. No other time during the show do i remember him talking or plotting. I really need to watch it again.

The only scripted TV I watch are Game Of Thrones and it’s ending next year and Outlander, which I’m having a hard time watching this season, it’s lost me so far.   432. I’m pretty sure Alan will finagle his way into staying a few more weeks. Frankly, it will make for great ratings and great fodder for us—but for true gamers, it will drive them crazy…just like his eyes. I couldn’t stand Varner either time he was on, but he managed to stay. So I won’t be surprised when Crazy Eyes stays a few more Tribals.

    I don’t watch much scripted TV either. Outlander was something I was really looking forward to. :( I watch a lot of movies and read books…and watch my ‘programs.’ Lol..but even my fav reality shows are bumming me out. RHOC, RHNY, and Below Deck—all, “Meh.”
    Oh well. Survivor will cheer me up!

  436. For some reason Varner didn’t bother me and I can honestly say I don’t really remember him that well but good God, after outing Zeke, he is a POS. Now I understand why people say they have hated him in the past.
    I agree about Crazy Eyes, he’s probably there for awhile, might even make it to the merge. Oh well, gives us a lot to discuss.

I usually record it and then fast forward through all of the commercials, but I will try to endure the commercials the next time. lol I noticed that most of the conversation took place during the show last week, and by the time I got to the page/thread, the last comment was like 8 hours prior to mine! So yeah, I kinda felt like I had missed Christmas or something by posting that late! Haha jk. Kind of. I really wish the show would come on like at least twice a week!!   457. Haha Not bugging me! I’m anxious to watch it live and discuss at the same time! I’ve decided that the commercials probably won’t be as annoying because I will be focusing on the discussion during them. That’s the plan at least. Haha I’m so ADD, there’s no telling how I will be able to handle both at once! But like you said, I record it and can always go back to make sure that I didn’t miss something. Survivor will be a welcomed relief this week, especially after the disheartening shooting that took place Sunday night-Monday morning!!!!! (Depending on the time zone.) Take care!
