Host Jeff Probst has revealed early details on what to expect from the Survivor 2017 twists when it comes to the Hidden Immunity Idols on Game Changers.
We’ve seen some recent seasons with interesting twists on where the Idols could be found (hidden within challenges) and how they worked (combined to make mega-Idols) but now they’re ready to try something new and different set against a cast known for doing things their own way.
Talking with EW, Probst explained how production wanted to make sure they were keeping up with these “Game Changer” castaways so they’d be doing things differently in Season 34.
“Given that it is Game Changers, we’re going to change the game constantly. So when it comes to idols, there will be no consistency,” says the host. “Usually there’s a theme. You have to find them in a certain way or work a certain amount of effort to get it. Not this time.”
So how will they work? Probst is careful to only reveal a few rough details saying the castaways could easily stumble upon one including at Tribal Council or around camp, the latter wouldn’t be much different but I can’t remember them being discovered at TC (maybe one has, I just don’t recall). It’s interesting that Survivor apparently wants to make them prolific this season and I’m assuming that’s to heighten the Tribal Council events. I can see the CBS promos now: “Most. Shocking. Tribal. EVAH!”
What Jeff is careful to hold back on is the specifics and that’s because they want to save these twists for another time if they don’t come up. He explains that if the Idols aren’t used and stay in the castaways’ pockets then they’ll use them the next Survivor season instead. Considering we’ve seen some big setups for Idol twists fall flat that’s probably a good idea.
Do you like the idea of abundant Hidden Immunity Idols on Survivor 2017? What sort of Idol twist would you introduce if you were helping Jeff Probst and the team plan the Game Changers season? Get ready for Season 34’s premiere on March 8th and we’ll see what happens then!
